Ecotherapy Melbourne

Gathering in circle to heal, create, connect and remember our place within the living web.

Welcome to Ecotherapy, an inclusive community-based space for nature-based therapy, holistic well-being, and deep connection. If you love learning, growing, and healing alongside others, you’ve come to the right place. We offer a grounded space to walk and talk, gather in a circle, slow down, find calm, share in life's challenges and joys, and tap into the wellspring of a nature-based circle community.

We don't pathologise mental health. Instead, we offer an integrated approach blending the art and science of well-being, creativity, ecotherapy, and strengths-based leadership coaching approaches. Our groups are grounded in depth psychology, eco-psychology, embodied mindfulness, and spiritual ecology, Ecotherapy will help you:

  • Co-regulate your nervous system through nature and group presence.

  • Reclaim your sense of belonging within the web of life and a local nature-based community.

  • Transform climate emotions like grief, anxiety and overwhelm into inspired and collaborative purpose.

  • Spark inspiration, creativity, self-leadership, and purposeful action.

We are the Earth learning how to heal ourselves. We warmly welcome you into our Earth Circle.

Ecotherapy Circle | Session Format

Our gatherings flow through a simple four-part rhythm designed to move you from daily busyness into presence, connection, and well-being:

Grounding Meditation: A short somatic mindfulness practice to settle the nervous system, drop into the body, and tune into the surrounding nature.

Paired Nature Walk: A gentle walk with a partner guided by a reflective prompt, fostering deep listening, quiet observation, and connection.

Creative Process: An intuitive, hands-on exercise using nature or creative arts to process insights and move energy—focused entirely on creative expression rather than artistic skill.

Shared Group Discussion: Gathering in circle to reflect, share insights, or simply listen, building collective wisdom and community belonging.

The Researched Benefits of Group Ecotherapy

Modern eco-psychology and neurobiology affirm what traditional wisdom has always known: nature and human connection are essential for mental, emotional, and nervous system health.

  • Nervous System Regulation & Stress Reduction: Studies in attention restoration theory (ART) and stress recovery theory show that immersive nature contact significantly lowers cortisol levels, reduces sympathetic nervous system arousal ("fight or flight"), and promotes parasympathetic restoration ("rest and digest").

  • Emotional Resilience & Reduced Anxiety: Research in eco-psychology demonstrates that spending structured time in natural environments decreases rumination, eases symptoms of anxiety and depression, and enhances mood through increased serotonin and endorphin activity.

  • Relief from Eco-Anxiety & Climate Grief: Group ecotherapy provides a supportive social container that validates ecological distress. Sharing ecological grief in community prevents isolation, builds emotional fortitude, and transforms overwhelm into active hope.

  • Cognitive Clarity & Mental Fatigue Recovery: Exposure to natural patterns (fractals, soft fascination) restores executive function, sharpens focus, and boosts creative problem-solving capacity.

  • Enhanced Social Connection & Belonging: Group-based ecotherapy fosters pro-social behaviour, empathy, and mutual trust, fulfilling the innate human need for relational connection with both human and more-than-human kin.

Who is this for?

Our workshops are for community groups, workplaces and anyone interested in community well-being and nature-based practices. We can gather inside or outside, including in your local garden or park. The Ecotherapy workshops are popular with council, social and environmental groups, allied health practitioners, educators and nature lovers.

Our Approach to Nature-Based Therapy, Mindfulness & Well-being.

1. Community Wisdom & Conscious Leadership

  • Holding Pain for the World: A safe, communal container to acknowledge and articulate the grief, fear, and anger arising from ecological and social crises (The Great Unravelling). This radical acceptance transforms overwhelm into active hope, solidarity, and shared vision.

  • Collective Joy & Purposeful Celebration: Engaging in group processes that amplify resilience, creativity, and strength. We draw inspiration from traditions that honour the sacredness of life—celebrating our shared love for the living world through storytelling, community connection, and wise action.

2. Spiritual Ecology, Depth Psychology & Eco-Dharma

  • Uncovering Patterns of Separation: Using depth psychology and the Eco-Dharma framework to examine internalised narratives of separation. Through active imagination and creative process, we transform old psychological patterns into visions for positive cultural shift.

  • Reclaiming the Ecological Self: Reconnect with your essential nature and inner guidance. Shift from an isolated perspective to feeling whole, aligned, and resourced to step into your cosmic vision, personal myth, and unique leadership calling.

3. Mindfulness & Embodied Presence

  • The Power of Being Present: Drawing on mindfulness modalities (including the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn) to cultivate insight, compassion, and awareness across body, mind, nature, and community.

  • Somatic Grounding: Developing sustainable somatic tools to regulate your nervous system. Root deeply in the felt sense of the body, anchoring into the steady intelligence of the Earth to lead from a place of grounded presence.

4. Sacred Circle & Expressive Arts Studio

  • The Power of Creative Ritual: Combining nature-based wisdom with storytelling, writing, vocal expression, and intuitive art-making. Our creative circle and open studio offer a container for processing life transitions and channeling insights into social impact.

  • Creating Sacred Space: Intentional practices for defining and holding space—outdoors and within community—to deepen presence, clarify strategic intention, and step into collective wisdom.

5. Land-Based Connection, Stewardship & Purposeful Projects

  • Organic Gardening & Cultivation Insights: Discovering nature-based insights through the living cycles—from planting seeds of intention to enriching soil conditions, nurturing growth, and harvesting shared fruits.

  • Sit Spot Practice: Cultivate your outdoor sit spot in your garden or local park for meditation, journaling, and nature observation—including options for building offerings and habitat support for local flora and fauna.

  • Rewilding, Landcare & Community Action: Learn the natural history of your local Stonnington region and build reciprocal relationships with Country by connecting with existing local social and environmental projects with purpose.
